Helen Amelia Leal Owens (Arthurs niece)

I am researching Arthur S. Leal because he was my mother's uncle and she remembers him leaving for the war and the notice of his death. Arthur was her father's brother (Andrew Leslie Leal).

Remarriage of Dorothy Perry Leal

It is recorded on the army records that Dorothy Leal remarried in 1921 to R Furniss.

Biography

Arthur Leal was my great uncle, his birth registered name is Sydney Arthur Leal. He was my mother's uncle, she was 6 years old when he left Australia. He worked as an orchardist with my mother's father, Andrew Leal on their property at Pymble. She said she remembered him leaving and the news of his death the following year, 1917.

When he enlisted in January 1916 he said he was not married but records show on his army death certificate that he was married to a Dorothy Perry in 1915, she remarried in 1921 to R. Furniss. Arthur went AWOL in September 1916, I presume to visit his wife Dorothy, as he would have known that the 3rd Infantry battilion were to sail out in October. He died a year later. There are no recorded children from Arthur and Dorothy's marriage. - Margaret Owens
