An article from the Bendigonian 10 June 1915, LANCE.CPL. W. DOYLE. Among the list of killed is Lance Corporal William Doyle. He was the eldest son of the late W. and Mrs. M. Doyle, of "Hazelglen" Elmgrove, East Richmond, and was 23 years of age. He was educated at St. Ignatius's Boys' school, Richmond, and was a jeweller by trade, being in the employ of Messrs. White Bros., Block Place, Melbourne, and at Bendigo, where he at times acted as manager. He was last in Bendigo about a year ago. He was a splendid type of young fellow, being 6ft. 1in. in height. He was promoted to lance-corporal after leaving Australia with 14th Battalion, 2nd Contingent.
William James Doyle’s brother 2442 Private Edward Mark Doyle 3rd Battalion Camel Corps (served as Edward Mark Waugh) returned to Australia 26 August 1918. He died of illness 12 May 1919 and is buried in the Boroondara (Kew) General Cemetery.
