Served during The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery.

69 years ago today, on the Wednesday afternoon of the 8th December 1954, Private William Phillips, 1st Australian Pioneer Battalion (Reg No-3166), labourer from the Adamstown Brickyard, New South Wales and New Lambton Estate, Adamstown, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 67. METHODIST 4-22. 27.

Born at Maitland?, New South Wales about 1887? to ? and ?, married date unknown, William enlisted on the 30th May 1916 at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A30 Borda on the 17th October 1916.
Commenced return to Australia 22.7.1917.

William arrived home on the 25th September 1917, being discharged medically unfit (deformed toes) on the 25th October 1917.

Did not qualify for Victory Medal.

Mr. Phillip’s name has been inscribed on the Adamstown Citizens' Memorial and the Adamstown Municipal District Roll of Honor.

I have placed poppies and a 1914-1918 WAR label at William’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.

Not officially commemorated.
