Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Thomas John Dunham was the son of Thomas John and Eleanor Dunham of South Brisbane, Queensland.

His younger brother 1642 Private Charles Ernest Dunham was also in the 49th Battalion and was severely wounded on the same day as his brother was killed during the fierce fighting at Mouquet Farm on 3-5 September 1916. Charles was returned to Australia due to the seriousness of his wound only seven weeks after Thomas's death.
