Private Peter Green (Service No:WX4260) enlisted in the Australian Army on 15 June 1940 and embarked from Fremantle for the Middle East with 2/16 Infantry Battalion on 25 October 1940. Private Green was atatched to 2/28 Infantry Battalion on 9 August 1942 when he was taken PoW at Alamein (PoW No:34502). Private Green was held in Italy and at Stalag VIIIB in Germany and was recovered on 17 May 1945. Private Green was Discharged on 30 August 1945. He was one of  seven siblings who served in WWII.

Born in 1920 in Kalgoorlie WA, Peter Mellanby Green was the youngest of twelve children of William Henry Green (b1878 at Halls Gap in the Northern Grampians, Victoria) and Clara Elizabeth Crudace (b1877 in Stawell, Victoria). William (a Miner ) and Clara married in 1900 in Stawell, Victoria and by 1902 had moved to the Goldfields region in WA, where William was a Miner - Kalgoorlie, Boulder, Bulong, Boorara,Kanowna, Burbanks, Coolgardie and Norseman - before moving to Manjimup in the late 1920's where he was a Farmer.

Peter worked as a Mill Hand in Kalgoorlie WA before enlistment in WWII. He was in Perth in 1947 when he married Edna Hollingsworth (b1922 in Lancashire, England) - Edna had immigrated with her parents and siblings in 1926, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Beltana. Peter and Edna lived in Kalgoorlie where Peter was a Mill Hand before settling at Yanmah nr Manjimup WA as a Farmer in the 1950s. By 1963 Peter and Edna were living in Perth and Peter was working as a Vermin Inspector - work which took them to Moora until the 1980s. Peter died in 2005 and Edna in 2010.
