Alan Barrow
Alan served in Palestine and Egypt before being sent to the Greece campaign 1940.
He was captured when 5000 or so allied soldiers were left trapped at the Battle of Kalamata.
Most of the allied forces were evacuated to Crete however as the Germans advanced a large number failed to be evacuated as the Germans had air support and naval ships had to leave the troops at Kalamata before daylight on 28 April 1941.
From there Alan was sent to Stalag 18a Wolfsberg Austria. He spent 4 yrs in a POW. The last 6 months he spent in a military hospital in Graz Austria suffering from delusional psychosis.
He returned to Sydney Sept 1945. He lived there until .he passed away 1972.
