The Citation for JJ Cantwell's MM
“On the 6th and 9th of May 1917 while the Battalion was in occupation of the HINDENBURG LINE near BULLECOURT FRANCE, Sgt. CANTWELL did splendid work in repelling counter-attacks and reorganising the line under continuous and furious bombardment. He worked unceasingly and fearlessly without sleep and set a splendid example to his men. Sergeant CANTWELL has been with the Battalion since its inception and with the exception of 10 days leave, has never been away.”
