Son of Joseph Francis Valkenburg and Mary Eleanor Valkenburg of Hercules Street, Chatswood, NSW. Brother of Guy Valkenburg who returned to Australia on 9 August 1919 having served with the 35th Ballation

Commenced return to Australia on 12 June 1919 aboard HT Port Darwin disembarking on 27 July 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney

Medals: !914-1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal

During 1926c Max married Edna Wallace Rixon in NSW.
