Pte CHARLES McGEE SRN 4338
Charles was 41 when he signed up with the 12th Battalion in September 1915. He sailed from Fremantle in January 1916 and arrived in France (via Egypt) in June. In July he was appointed to the rank of Gunner with the 10th Field Artillery Brigade and posted to the 39th Battery.
In October 1918 he was invalided to England with rheumatic pain in his legs. He was found to be medically unfit for general service and discharged, returning to Australia in 1919.
Charles died in Launceston in 1942.
Charles' story is part of our exhibition: Our Grateful Thanks and Loving Remembrance, a moving and deeply personal exhibition remembering the soldiers whose names are immortalised on the Ross War Memorial.
