Son of James George Verrills and Annie Verrills of Reed Street, Neutral Bay, NSW.

Brother of Ernest James Verrills who was killed in action on 9 October 1917 while serving with the 17th Battalin and is buried in the Passchendaele New British Cemetery, Plot X1V, Row B, Grave 20

Commenced return to Australia on 6 July 1919 aboard HT Boorara disembarking on 26 August 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney.
