Son of Frederick Joseph and Catherine Jane Popplewell of 4 Lyons Street, Ballarat North, Victoria; brother of Ruby Alick Popplewell

Signaller Cecil Hugh Poppelwell (killed) was the son of Mrs Poppelwell, of Mair street. He was 30 years of age, and was born in New Zealand. He was a printer, and he enlisted from Western Australia, where he was working when the war broke out. His mother is a well-known temperance and church worker.
