Son of Walter Upton and Louisa Upton of Albert Parade, Guildford, NSW.
6 January 1916 - enlisted at Casula, NSW, with the 19th Battalion with the rank of Private.
15 April 1917 - wounded in action. Wounds to both legs. Invalided to England on 19 April 1917 aboard HS Jan Breydel.
Commenced return to Australia on 10 September 1917 aboard HT Ulysses disembarking on 16 November 1917
Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal
11 May 1918 - discharged at the 2nd Military District as medically unfit due to wounding
