Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Ernest Richard Krantzcke was the son of Charles Frederick and Elizabeth Ann Krantzcke, of Daceyville, New South Wales.

He was only at the front for a few months before he was killed in action on the night of 4 February 1917, a night of intense fighting for the unit when they attacked Stormy Trench near Gueudecourt, France. Captain Harry Murray was awarded the VC for his gallantry during the fight.

Pte. Krantzcke had two brothers who also served in the AIF, one was returned in 1918 for being under age and the other during 1919.
