Private Alexander Hastings (Service No:QX21456) enlisted in the AIF on 25 April 1941 and embarked from Sydney for the Middle East with 2nd/25th Infantry Battalion on 13 September 1941. On 8 February 1942 Private Hastings embarked from the Middle East for Brisbane and was Discharged as Medically Unfit on 14 December 1942.

Alexander was born in 1911 in Edinburgh Scotland, second of four children of James Barr Hastings (b1887 in Edinburgh, Scotland) and Margaret Bull (b1890 in Inverness-shire, Scotland). James (a Labourer) and Margaret married in 1904 in Edinburgh, Scotland where they raised their family and James was a Labourer and Soldier - he served twelve years with the British Army, including five years in WWI with the Highlanders (Mentioned in Dispatches). In 1927 James and Margaret immigrated with their children, arriving in Brisbane, QLD on board the Orvieto and settling in Mackay, QLD. James was a Whaterside Worker, and served with the ACMF in WWII (Private; Service No:Q18772).

Alexander worked in Mackay as a Shop Assistant and was a Labourer in Brisbane when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge, Alexander returned to Mackay and worked as a Shop Assistant and in 1949 was working as a Labourer in Brisbane. Alexander then worked in Melbourne, Victoria as a Waterside Worker before settling in Sydney, NSW in the late 1960s. In 1970 in Sydney, Alexander married Dulcie Elaine Johnson (b1915 in Sydney, NSW) - Dulcie was working in Sydney as a Forewoman. Alexander and Dulcie settled in Sydney where Alexander was a Waterside Worker until retirement in 1980. Alexander died in 1997 and Dulcie in 2002.
