Son of Mrs L Marchant, 'Knole', Clifton Avenue, Clifton Hill, Victoria
After initial training in Egypt Robert proceeded to France 29 March 1916.
Sick to 14th Casulaty Clearing Station 20 November 1916 with Laryngitis and rejoined his unit 11 January 1917.
Awarded Military Medal 22 June 1917

Again admitted to hospital sick in Belgium 27 October 1917 then transferred to Havre with Venereal Disease.
Rejoined his unit 17 December 1917.
Detatched to Aust. Corps. M.G. School 07 September 1918 and rejoined his unit 28 September 1918 and appointed Temorary Corporal 14 September 1918.
Promoted to Temporary Sergeant 05 October 1918 and Sergeant 03 January 1919.
Marched out to England 05 May 1919
Returned to Australia per "Konnig F. August" 06 August 1919 and discharged 28 September 1919.
