William Cuthbert HAWKINS was born on 4th July, 1897 in Hobart, Tasmania
His parents were Robert John HAWKINS and Violet Mary CUTHBERT
He enlisted in Claremont, Tasmania on 23rd April, 1915 and embarked from Brisbane on the ship Aeneas on 29th June, 1915 with the 26th Infantry Battalion
He was Killed in Action on 29th July, 1916 - his name is honoured on the Australian War Memorial and the Villers Bretonneux Memorial & also the Lunawanna Honour Board in Bruny Island, Tasmania
Medals: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal & the Victory Medal
His brother Robert Gordon HAWKINS (SN984) also served in WW1 and returned to Australia in 1919
