Cecil Richmond DAVIDGE (Service Number 6504) was born 21 December 1893 and lived in Marrickville. He commenced working in the Railways on 11 October 1909, as a junior porter at Darling Harbour in the Traffic Branch. He was promoted to porter on 21 December 1914, and joined the AIF on 11 July 1916, at the age of 22. He was in the 34th Australian Infantry Battalion.

Cecil Richmond DAVIDGE (Service Number 6504) was born 21st December 1893 and lived in Marrickville. He commenced working in the Railways on 11th October 1909 as a junior porter at Darling Harbour in the Traffic Branch. He was promoted to porter on 21st December 1914. He joined the AIF on 11th July 1916, at the age of 22. He was in the 34th Australian Infantry Battalion.
On 7th October 1916 he embarked from Sydney for Plymouth (England) on HMAT ‘Ceramic’ A40. He disembarked there on 21st November 1916. Shortly after arriving in England, he was admitted to Brigade Hospital for venereal disease. This was on 19th December 1916. He was transferred to the 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital in Bulford. Then he was transferred to an isolation hospital on 24th December. In early February 1917, he was transferred once again to Parkhouse Hospital. He was finally discharged on 24th May 1917, after a period of 157 days fighting this disease.
On 6th November 1917, he went to France via Southampton. It was not long before he was again admitted to the hospital. This was on 4th February 1918. He was suffering from for pyrexia. He re-joined the 34th Battalion after sick leave on 18th February, in France.
He was killed in action on 3rd April 1918 at age 24. Cecil’s personal items wer sent to his father after his death. They included a pair of leather gloves, and a purse. He was also given the British War Medal and the Victory Medal for his son’s service.
As he has no known grave, Cecil Davidge is honoured at the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.
