Son of Edward Patrick O'Shannassy and Mabel Eleanor  O'Shannassy nee Nicholson of Rossmoyne Street, Thornbury, Victoria.

Commenced return to Australia on 12 March 1918 aboard HT Kenilworth Castle disembarking at Durban. Rembarked on 28 April 1918 aboard HT Field Marshall disembarking on 22 May 1918
