Reginald Alan Hanlin. Reg was born in Fremantle on 14.3.1895 and educated at Scotch College, Claremont. He enlisted on the 24.3.1915 at Blackboy Hill, aged 20 years. He was a clerk and Presbyterian. His father was the Rev Robert Hanlin, and Reg had served with the Scotch College Cadets and belonged to the 86th Infantry. He was initially appointed to the 13th Depot Company as a Private with service number 862. Reg was described as being 6 feet 1 inch tall, with a chest measurement of 35-37 inches, fair complexion, brown eyes and brown hair. On 24.5.15 he was appointed Sergeant and embarked on the 9.6.15 at Fremantle on HMAT Ascanius A11. He served at Gallipoli in late 1915, with hospital visits for a boil and bronchitis. He proceeded to Marseille on the 16.3.16 and was wounded in action in France on 29.7.16. He had a gunshot wound to his arm and was evacuated to Étaples. Reg rejoined his unit on 24.8.16. On 3.9.16 he was posted to the Officers Training School in England and on the 5 .9.16 he joined the Cadet Battalion at Trinity College, Cambridge. Having passed his qualifications, he was appointed 2nd Lieutenant. Reg was sent to Infantry Reinforcements on 18.12.16, proceeding to France on 16.1.17 and serving with the 28th Battalion. He was wounded in action on the second occasion on 3.5.17, with gunshot wounds to his thighs. Initially sent to Rouen, he was evacuated to England on the 16.5.17 and promoted to Lieutenant on 21.5.17.

 Reg returned to Australia on the 21.7.17 per A14. 6.2.18 and his appointment with the AIF terminated because of wounds on 6.2.18.  

After 35 months in the AIF, he again enlisted on the 2.9.1918, this time with the Australian Expeditionary Forces to New Guinea, the AN & MEF unit. He left Sydney for Rabaul on the 11.9.18 embarking on the Morinda. From the 27.9.19, Reg served at Rabaul, Kokopo, and Kaewieng. He left Rabaul for furlough on 30.4.20 on the SS Melusia and resumed duties in Rabaul with the Department of N/Affairs. He served in Rabaul and Eitape and was appointed temporary Captain on 1.1.21. He was discharged at Rabaul on the 9.5.21as medically unfit, leaving Rabaul on the 27.10.21 per Mataram and returning to Australia. On the 21.12.21 his appointment was terminated due to medical unfitness. Reg married Jean Russell in Sydney in 1934.

In 1941 he applied for a position in the Commonwealth service. In 1969, he was living in West Ryde, Sydney when he applied for the Anzac Plaque and Button. Reg died in Sydney on the 13.12.1979.
