When John 'Jack' Waters HOSKING was born on 18 August 1885 in Bungeluke, Victoria, his father, James, was 30 and his mother, Mary, was 22. Shortly after he was discharged from his WWI Military service he married Olive May BELL in September 1919 in Peak Hill, New South Wales. They had five children during their marriage. He died on 25 May 1957 at the age of 71, and was buried in Peak Hill, New South Wales.
In April 1942 order to enlist in WWII and meet the cut off age of 45, he lied about his age saying he was born in 1896 which made him 45 almost 46, however his actual age was 56 almost 57.
