Noel Edmund Barton KIRKWOOD was born on 3rd November, 1891 in Burwood, Sydney, New South Wales
His parents were David Simpson Roberts KIRKWOOD & Jane McCullloch (Jennie) BARTON who married in Burwood in 1879
He enlisted on 27th May, 1915 and embarked from Sydney with the 1st Australian General Hospital special reinforcements on the ship HMAT Karoola on 16th June, 1915 - he had been promoted to Captain on 12th June 1915
He was promoted to Major on 20th June, 1917 & transferred to the 1st Australian Field Ambulance on 28th June, 1917
He returned to Australia on 10th January, 1918 arriving on 3rd May, 1918 on the ship Corinthic and was discharged on 10th July, 1918
On 1st June, 1918 he married in Sydney to Kathleen WYNTER
Noel died on 13th February, 1976 at the Allambie Private Hospital, Tamworth & was cremated privately
