Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks
Bertram George Edwards was one of two young sons of George and Agnes Ellen Edwards of Elizabeth Town, Tasmania, who died during WW1.
His younger brother, 3357 Pte. Thomas John Edwards 14th Battalion AIF, was killed in action at Bullecourt in April 1917 at only 19 years of age.
Bertram arrived in France during November 1916 and most severely wounded during April 1917, being evacuated to England with gunshot wounds to his back and thighs. He rejoined the 40th Battalion during July 1917 and was promoted to Lance Corporal soon after.
He was badly wounded again on 28 March 1918, near Morlancourt, this time in the head, and he died 15 days later in an American hospital in Rouen.
