Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of Samuel  & Caroline LUCAS
Of Marion Rd, Parramatta

PRIVATE ALFRED LUCAS, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Samuel Lucas, of Marion street, Harris Park, who is reported missing He is 20 years of age and early in October was reported wounded, but not seriously. His parents have since received word that he had returned to duty, and three weeks ago received a cable announcing that he was missing since October 5 — the samne date given in the cases of young Todd and others. There is evidently a mix up in this, however, for the reason that Mrs. Lucas received a letter from Private A. Lucas stating that he was in the trenches, was well and (unlike a great many other soldiers) had received all his letters and parcels O.K. That letter was dated October 10— five days after he was supposed to be missing. The parents got into communication with the base at Melbourne, and they have sent for the letter of the 10th, which Mrs. Lucas has forwarded. His brother, Private Harry Lucas, is now in England having, as he recently wrote home, a rattling good time. Both young men are members of the Parrumatta Foresters' Lodge, and  Private Alfred was for a couple of years a bookkeeper for Messrs. Rawlinson Bros., Parramatta.
