Sergeant Leslie James Bartley (Service No:WX17420) initially served in the ACMF (Private; Service No:W2794) with 8 Supply Depot and 3 Field Regiment (30 September 1940 - 26 October 1941). On 27 October 1941 he enlisted in the AIF and served as a Bombardier and Sergeant with 2nd/3rd Field Regiment and 2nd/5th Field Coy. Sergeant Bartley served in Borneo from 23 May 1945 to 15 January 1946 and was attached to 2/5 Field Coy RAE when he was Discharged on 8 July 1946.
Born in 1915 in Albany WA, Leslie was the third of nine children of John (Jack) Robert Bartley (b1890 in Richmond, Melbourne, Victoria) and Gertrude Margaret Keyser (b1888 in Albany, WA). Jack (a Labourer) and Gerturde married in 1910 in Albany WA where they settled and raised their family and Jack worked as a Labourer.
In 1939 Leslie was a Storekeeper in Fremantle WA when he married Eileen Amy Kennedy (b1915 in Albany, WA) - Eileen was an Usherette in Fremantle. Leslie and Eileen settled in Fremantle, WA and following his Discharge, Leslie was a Shop Assistant, Agent and Proprietor in Fremantle. Leslie died in 1975 and Eileen in 2000.
