Sapper Bernard Lorraine Stevenson (Service No:VX147790) initially served in the ACMF (Private; Service No:V502300) from 17 October 1942 to 28 December 1943 when he Discharged to enlist in the AIF on 29 December 1943. Sapper Stevenson served with 1 Australian Ordnance Vehicle Park and 25 Australian Field Coy, and was attached to 2/8 Field Regiment when he embarked with his Unit from Cairns for Aitape on board the Mexico on 11 November 1944. Sapper Stevenson embarked from Rabaul for Sydney on 21 May 1946 and was attached to 2/8 Field Regiment at Discharge on 26 November 1946.

Barnie was born in 1924 in Melbourne, Victoria, eldest of four children of Rolph/Rolf Reynolds Stevenson (b1901 in Launceston, Tasmania) and Alice Amelia Burkett (b1902 in Melbourne, Victoria). Rolf was a Labourer in Melbourne in 1923 when he and Alice married - they had both previously lived in Currie on King Island, Tasmania. Rolf was a Labourer when he enlisted in WWI (Private; Service No:5185). Rolf and Alice lived in Melbourne and Yallourn, Victoria where Rolf worked in the Coal Mines as a Labourer and Rigger. The family settled in Currie on King Island, Tasmania in 1937 and Rolf worked as a Lighthouse Keeper, Wharf Labourer and PMG Linesman.

Barnie was working as a Contractor (Concrete Labourer) in 1942 when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge, he returned to King Island where he worked as a Wharf Labourer before moving to Flowery Gully in Beaconsfiled where he worked as a Quarryman - in the early 1950s he married Mavis Jean. By the early 1960s Barnie and Mavis had settled in Launceston where Rolf worked as an Electrical Assistant and Barman. Rolf died in 1995.
