Signalman Edward Robert Gerald Griffin (Service Nos:V240637/VX121142) initially served in the ACMF, enlisting on 28 May 1942 with Signals Training Battalion, and was attached to Milne Force Signals on 3 October 1942 when he embarked with his Unit from Townsville for Milne Bay. Signalman Griffin enlsited in the AIF 'in the field' on 8 December 1942, and in July 1943 was detached for duty to 41 US Division. In October 1943 he transferred to 2/5 Field Regiment Signals, and on 6 February 1944  embarked from Port Moresby for Brisbane. Signalman Griffin served in Morotai and Balikapan with 7 Division Signals (9 June 1945 - 22 February 1946), and was attached to 2/5 Field Regimant Signals Section at Discharge on 3 September 1946.

Edward was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1919, only child of Edward Joseph Parnell Griffin (b1887 in Crowlands, Victoria) and Amy Bates (b1889 in Melbourne, Victoria). Edward was an Orchardist in 1917 when he enlisted in the AIF (Private; Service No:67533), and was Discharged in 1918 (Medically Unfit). He and Amy married in Melbourne in 1919, and Edward died in before his son was born that year. In 1920 Amy remarried to George Arthur Rackham (b1897 in Robe, South Australia) - George was a Book Keeper at Denicull Creek via Ararat when he enlisted in the AIF in 1914 (Sergeant; Service No:2074). Following his Discharge, George returned to Denicull Creek and work as a Book Keeper before moving to Sunshine in 1920, where he was working as an Iron Moulder when he and Amy married. They settled in Sunshine, where they raised their family and George worked as an Iron Moulder and Builder. In the early 1930s the family moved to Ararat, where George worked as a Mental Asylum Attendant. George served in the ACMF in WWII (Private; Service No:V5355) and following his Discharge, he and Amy lived in Melbourne where he worked as Builder. Following Amy's death in 1954, George retired to Ballarat.

Edward (aka Gerald) worked in Ararat as a  Storeman/Packer before enlisting in the Army in 1942. Following his Discharge from the Army, Edward lived in Melbourne and worked as a Storeman/Packer and Attendant before moving to Adelaide in South Australia in the 1950s. Edward settled in Adelaide, where he married Rita Agnes (b1915). edward died in 1977 and Rita died in 2005.
