Robert Wiiliam Hore

He was born in 1886 to Oliver and Jane Hore.He was educated at Albury Grammar school and was the brother of my late Grandmother Vera Davies. Robert's wife died prior to he enlisting for the war however they had a young son,Bryce.I think Bryce was only about 3 years old when his dad went off to war.Unfortunately he was to become an orphan after the death of Robert in the war.He was subsequently brought up by my grandmother ,Vera. Robert Hore moved up the ranks to become a major in the AIF 10th battery 4th brigade field artillery. He was mentioned in dispatches on several occasions and he received the DSO during operations in the Ypres salient for conspicuous devotion to duty and gallantry whilst commanding his battery.
Prior to going to war Robert was an auctioneer in Albury,a profession which many of his ancestors followed after him.Bryce became a farmer at Lockhart in NSW and passed away some years ago.He was married to Mary, a nursing sister in Lockhat and they had no children.Robert died of his wounds in Rouen, France and is buried in the St. Sever cemetery there.
