HAVE MERCY UPON HIM LORD AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON HIM

Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations near ZONNEBEKE on 26th September, 1917. He acted as stretcher bearer and did marvellous work rescuing and carrying in wounded under an intense barrage and enemy machine gun fire which cost us fifty percent of our stretcher bearers. The courage and devotion of these gallant men was the theme of admiration of all members of the Battalion and to see their wonderful work recognised would give great satisfaction to the Battalion.'

CROFTS.—In over loving memory of our dear son, Pte. E. W. T. Crofts, M.M. killed in action in France, 8th August, 1918, aged 21 years 11 months.
A year ago the sad message came.
Since our great sorrow fell;
Yet in our heart we mourn the loss,
Of one we loved so well.
Though we were far away, dear Ted,
The ones that wished you well.
Our thoughts were ever of you,
And will for ever dwell.
And while the sad years vanish,
Your name we'll oft recall;
And proudly we will cherish
Your photo on the wall.
His duty nobly done.
(Inserted by his sorrowing mother, father, sister and brother.)

CROFTS.—In ever loving memory of our dear brother Pte. E. W. T. Crofts, MM., killed in action in France, 8th August, 1918, aged 24 years 11 months.
A noble brother true and kind,
A beautiful memory left behind;
We have lost, Heaven has gained
One of the best the world contained.
Just when his life was brightest,
Just when his hopes were best.
His country called, he answered—
Now in God's hands he rests.
- His duty nobly done.
(Inserted by his over sorrowing sister and brother-in-law, M. E. and R. Berry and family.)

CROFTS.—in loving memory of our dear Comrade, Pte. E. W. T. Crofts, M.M., killed in action in France, 8th August, 1918.
We left Australia’s shores together,
And all hoped to return;
But God thought best to take poor Ted
To his eternal home.
We miss him most. We knew his worth,
As s soldier and a map.
Some may forgot this hero.
But we never shall.
(Inserted by his comrade, Jack Baker).

CROFTS.—In memory of our dear Nephew, Private Edward W. T. Crofts, 15th Battalion, No, 17201, who was killed in France on the 8th August,1918.
Only the grave of a soldier.
Only a mound of earth.
Far from the land of the Wattle,
The place that gave him birth.
Somewhere in France he is lying,
He answered his country's call.
He died an Austral an hero,
Fighting to save us all.
Inserted by his loving aunt and great aunt, M. M. and Jane Crofts.)
