21 Oct 1918: | Honoured Military Medal, PTE. MARRINER is a son of Mr. Herbert R. Marriner, hon. secretary of the Sydney Royal Philharmonic Society. He has been awarded the Military Medal for exceptional bravery and devotion to duty. For fourteen hours he and Pte. F. L. Rowe carried stretcher cases under very heavy shellfire, and when two of their squad had been wounded continued to do the work of four men, thus avoiding a blockage in the evacuation of the wounded. MARRINER, Regas Julian -17566
Private MARRINER, Regas Julian was born on 7th April 1895 to Mrs E Marriner and Mr Herbert Richard Marriner. He served in World War 1 from 1916 to 1919 at 6th Field Ambulance.
Private Marriner, Regas Julian went to Sydney Technical High School during 1907-1913. He received an intermediate certificate during his high school years. He may have also gone to Chemistry Theoretical after graduating from Sydney Technical High School. He really liked Chemistry and Science. Regas Julian Marriner became an analyst assistant before enlisting in World War 1 on the 1st of May 1916.
During World War One, Private Marriner served in the 6th Field Ambulance as part of the Army Medical Corps. He embarked on the HMAT A20 Hororata on 4 June 1917. Regas was mentioned when Brigadier-General J. Paton, commanding the 2nd Australian Division said this in his book. “On 10th June 1918, at Mordancourt, near Albert, when the 7th Australian Infantry Brigade” - THS Journal Vol III No.3 November 1918 p7[1]. Private MARRINER, Regas Julian served in World War 1 from 1916 to 1919 in an unknown location where he worked as a medical staff and helped save thousands of military personnel.
Private Marriner returned to Australia on the 1st of July 1919. He received a Victory Medal, a Military Medal and a British War Medal. He then married Joyce Millicent Corderoy at the age of 47 in 1942. Private Regas Julian then went on to serve Australia in the Second World War where he survived and came back to Australia. He later died on the 30th of May 1988 at the age of 93.
