The Uralla Times (NSW) Thu 29 May 1941
MR PERCY RIXON, Death from Injuries.
Mr. Percy Rixon, who resided at New Lambton, was knocked over by a motor car on Saturday night when riding his bicycle towards home. He died in hospital at 4 o'clock on Sunday morning. A nurse, who was also riding a cycle some distance ahead of Mr. Rixon, was allegedly knocked over by the same car and sustained serious injuries. There is a special cycle track at the side of the road and naturally this was being used by Mr. Rixon, as well as the nurse, at the time. On Monday a young man was charged in connection with the sad affair. Mr. Rixon, second son of Mrs. Rixon and the late George Rixon was born at Harnham Grove 44 years ago . He served three years and 18 days with the A.I.F. in the Great War. He married Miss Doris Garrahy, eldest daughter of Mr. & Mrs. M. Garrahy of Uralla, and six children, the eldest being 16 years survive the union. Mr. Rixon had been on the railway in Newcastle for a number of years. Returned soldiers and railwaymen took part in the funeral on Monday. Mr and Mrs. Jack Hill, Mr. Boss Garrahy and Miss Nell Garrahy were present. Mrs. Rixon was spending a holiday at Uralla with her parents when she received the news of her husband critical injuries through Sgt McGuinness, who was notified by the Newcastle police. Her husband was intending to join her here this week. Captain Cliff Rixon of the Salvation Army and Messrs. Sam, Bert and Eric are brothers and Mrs. J. R. Blanch (Sydney), Mrs. Jack Hill (Uralla) Mrs. Jack King, Mrs. Jim Sheedy and Mrs. Bert Forster (Kentucky) are sisters of the deceased. A younger brother Keith was killed some years ago on the hill near Thunderbolt's Rock in a collision between his motor bike and a cart.

I have placed poppies at Percy’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
