Norman moved to Mudgee in 1939, and worked at Foutains Garage until enlisting in the Army in 1941. On the day of his discharge, Norm joined the RSL and worked tirelessly for the Mudgee Sub-Branch. After retiring due to ill health in 2003, he continued to visit sick ex-servicemen, selling badges and raffle tickets until just prior to his death. He was named Mudgee Citizen of the Year on Australia Day 1993.
