MR. A. H. VOGLER
Mr. Albyn Herbert Vogler, who died early on Saturday morning last, was one of the Old Brigade of 'diggers.' During the 1914-1918 War he held the rank of lieutenant in the infantry, his old regiment being the hard-fighting Victorian 14th Battalion, At one time he had the
proud record of being the youngest commissioned officer serving in the Australian Forces in France, and his record was a proud one. During his active service, he was very severely wounded, and for the rest of his life he was a sick man as a direct result of these wounds.
'Vog.' as he was widely known, was in action in France at the age of sixteen, and the same spirit that inspired him to enlist for active
service at this early age was evident throughout his life.
In spite of his sickness and suffering over the past few years, he held his head high, always with a jest and smile, and was always good company.
His service to ex-servicemen was on a par with his active service. During his seventeen years' residence in Mudgee, he was a stalwart of the local R.S.L. sub-branch, and held many executive offices, including a three-year period as president. Even up to the time of his passing he was the sub-branch's honorary auditor.
In a statement issued last Monday evening, the president of the Mudgee R.S.L. sub-branch, Mr. Col. Meyer, said: 'We, and ex-servicemen generally, will forever be in the debt of old members
such as the late Mr. Vogler, as it was through their services to the League, during both good and lean times, this this body was in its un-challengeable position to ensure for the young men returning from the 1939-45, and subsequent, wars, the rights and privileges they enjoy.'
The late Mr. Vogler was cremated at the Northern Suburbs Crematorium at trhree o'clock last Monday afternoon. The Mudgee R.S.L. sub-branch was officially represented by past president,
Dr. Godfrey Harris, accompanied by other friends of the deceased from Mudgee.
