Private Leslie Hatherell (Service No:VX94284) enlisted in the AIF on 8 February 1944, and was attached to 3 MTTD Workshop AEME - Craftsman, graded Driver Mechanic. On 12 June 1945 Gunner Hatherell was attached to 2/8 Field Regiment when he embarked with his Unit from Brisbane for Morotai en route for service in Borneo. Gunner Hatherell embarked from Labuan for Sydney on 16 January 1946, and was attached to 2/8 Field Regiment at Discharge on 23 January 1947.
Leslie was born in Hamilton, Victoria in 1926, youngest of four children of John Henry Hatherell (b1891 in Hamilton, Victoria) and Harriet Susan Rundell (b1892 in Condah, Victoria). John and Harriet married in 1917, and settled in Hamilton where they raised their family and John was a Fishmonger and Butcher.
Leslie was a Motor Mechanic in Hamilton in 1944 when he enlisted in the Army, and returned to Hamilton following his Discharge. In 1948 Leslie was a Butcher in Hamilton when he married Una Myrtle Todd (b1926 in Geelong, Victoria). Leslie and Una settled in Hamilton, where they raised their family and Leslie was a Butcher. Leslie died in 2008 and Una in 2012.
