Let us remember a Fallen Soldier of The Great War memorialised at Mimi Cemetery, N.S.W.

On the 15th February 1917, Sapper William John Henderson, referred to as Jock, 1st Australian Tunnelling Company (Reg No-5546), single miner from Church Street, Minmi, New South Wales, Died of Disease (lobar pneumonia), age 24 years 8 months, at the 51st General Hospital, Etaples, France.

No Australian Red Cross Wounded and Missing File.

Born at Minmi, New South Wales on the 27th May 1892 to Charles (died 30.4.1931, Minmi, N.S.W., age 81, buried at Right Hand Side, Section 27, Plot 009), from Church Street, Minmi, New South Wales, and Ann (Annie) Henderson nee Ritchie (died 1.6.1912, Minmi, N.S.W., age 61, mother of 3?, sleeping at Right Hand Side, Section 27, Plot 009), from Church Street, Minmi, New South Wales, Jock enlisted on the 22nd May 1916, age 23 years 11 months, with the Tunnelling Companies, October 1916, Reinforcements at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A38 Ulysses on the 25th October 1916.

Disembarked Plymouth, England 28.12.1916.

Proceeded O/Seas to France from Folkestone, England 28.1.1917.

Jock is resting at Etaples Military Cemetery, France. Plot XXI Row F Grave 11.

Place of Association - Minmi, New South Wales, Australia.

Mr. Henderson's name has been inscribed on the Minmi Roll of Honour as J HENDERSON.

I have placed poppies at the Henderson memorialised gravesite in remembrance of the service and supreme sacrifice of their son Jock for God, King & Country. Right Hand Side, Section 27, Plot 009.
