Trooper Arthur Robert Arundel Brock

Born in Somerset West, Cape Town, South Africa on 19 Sep 1884 he emigrated to Australia in 1911 settling in Victoria where he was employed as a Station Overseer

At the age of 30 he enlisted in the AIF at Broadmeadows on 13 Nov 1914 being allocated as Trooper with A Squadron of the 8th Light Horse Regiment

He embarked for the Middle East on 25 Feb 1915 arriving in Egypt in Apr

The Light Horse was deployed to Gallipoli in May to reinforce the infantry units that had been taking heavy casualties since landing at Anzac Cove on 25 Apr, however, it appears Arthur was "left with kit & bags" at Overseas Base Ghezireh where he remained until the return of the remnants of the 8th Light Horse following their devastation losses at the Nek in Aug & subsequent evacuation of the peninsular

He rejoined the Regt at Alexandria on 28 Dec

In 1916 he was with the Regt for the Battle of Romani & subsequent follow-up operations during the Battle of Bir el Abd in Aug where he was wounded in action, suffering a gunshot wound to his right forearm on 9 Aug

He was invalided to Australia for treatment in Sep & subsequently discharged from the AIF on 1 Apr 1917

Arthur married Nellie Frances Eades of Lisson Grove, Hawthorn in Jul 1920

He passed away in Heidelberg VIC on 5 Jul 1966 at the age of 81 & was interred at Springvale Botanical Cemetery
