It was noted in corrospondence with the Defence Department that the next of kin was Mrs. Mary Magee of Westbury Tasmania, sister to 3633 Edward John Brown and sister to 2275 Private Henry Brown 15th Battalion AIF killed in action 8 August 1918, aged 25.

She stated that the brothers mother was deceased and the father had deserted the family 12 years previously.
