Son of G. H. Orford of Henry Street, Windsor, Victoria. Later changed to his sister Eliza Nobbs of Harold Street, Thornbury, Victoria.

Commenced return to Australia on 27 April 1919 aboard HT Runic disembarking on 10 June 1919

During 1921c William married Elsie May Duff in Victoria
