Son of James and Margaret Stephen Kilpatrick of Pratten, QLD; previously of 'Pine Grove', Berat, QLD

27 December 1915 - court martialled for being asleep at his sentry post while on active service. Found guilty and sentence to ten years penal servitude but reserved the sentence for confirmation this was remitted as it was considered the circumstances, actions and expectations leading up to the situation had been ovelry excessive

After Gallipoli, and the charges against him were dropped, Jim was sent to Palestine. There he took part in and was among the first killed in the Charge of the Australian Light Horse Brigades on Beersheba on the last day of 1917.

He was initially buried were he fell about 2 miles South East of the town and was later reinterred in the Beersheba War Cemetery.
