Corporal Wilfred Stirling Rodda (Service No:VX23098) enlisted in the AIF on 6 June 1940 and was a Private attached to Australian Corps Petrol Park when he embarked with his Unit from Melbourne for the Middle East on 7 February 1941. Private Rodda served in the Middle East with Australian Corps Petrol Park AASC and 219 Field Park Coy, returning to Adelaide on 17 March 1942. Private Rodda then served in New Guinea (19 September 1942 - 1 May 1944) where he was promoted to Corporal on 27 June 1943. Corporal Rodda was attached to 106 General Transport Coy at Discharge on 27 October 1944. His father Harold served in WWI and WWII and brother Ivan served in WWII.
Eldest of five children, Wilfred was born in Trafalgar via Moe, Victoria in 1918 to Harold Christopher Rodda (b1890 in Daylesford, Victoria) and Alice Mary Stirling (b1860 in Bendigo, Victoria). Harold had served in WWI and was a Farmer in Thorpdale via Moe when he and Alice married in 1919 in Trafalgar via Moe. They settled at Thorpdale where they raised their family and Harold was a Farmer (Dairy and Potatoes) before moving to Melbourne in the mid 1920s where Harold was a Labourer. Through the 1930s/1950s, the family lived in Wodonga where Harold was a Blacksmith and in Sale, Morwell and Tynong where he was a Farmer/Grazier.
Wilfred was working as a Farm Labourer in Stradbroke via Sale in 1940 when he enlisted in the Army and, in 1945 in Hamilton, he married Florence (Betty) Eales (b1921 in Hamilton, Victoria). Wilfred was a Shopkeeper in Hamilton and in the early 1950s he and Betty settled at Nar-Nar-Goon via Pakenham and later at Nullawarre where they raised their family and Wilfred was a Dairy Farmer. In the early 1970s they moved to Warnambool, where Wilfred was a Carpenter. Wilfred died in 2010 and Betty in 2013.
