Charles was the seventh of eight children of Percival (Percy) Leonard Dyson (b1882 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Theodocia Hannah Wallis (b1881 in Perth, WA). Percy (a Furniture Dealer) and Theodocia married in 1900 in Perth WA where they settled and raised their family. Percy worked as a Furniture Dealer and Buyer, Bookmaker and Clerk.

Charles was working as a Bag Machinist in Perth WA in December 1941 when he enlisted in the ACMF (Private; Service No:W32756). He was attached to 121 Motor Transport Coy when he Discharged to enlist in the AIF in August 1942. Charles was a Corporal (Service No:WX32946) attached to 138 General Transport Coy when he was Discharged in March 1946. Brothers Robert Edward (Service No:WX36588) and Ernest Leonard (Service Nos:WX25688/W9050) also served in WWII.

In 1949 Charles working as a Machinist in Perth WA when he married Dorothy May Knapton (b1920 in Greenbushes, WA) - Dorothy was working as an Army Instructor in Perth. The couple settled in Perth WA where Charles was a Manufacturer. He died in 1999 and Dorothy in 2004.
