A 19 year old fitter and Turner, born in Adelaide, enlisted 20/8/1914 as a bugler.
He was wounded four times during WWI.
1. 8th Sept 1916 (Pozieres?) SW right forearm & left hand
2. 6th May 1917 (Bullecourt) SW neck
3. 22/12/1917 GSW head - severe
4. 24/8/1918 SW and compound fracture, left arm - severe
Recommended for a Military Medal (not awarded) at Ligny on the 27/2/1917 as acting CSM (Sgt).
Recommended and awarded a Military Cross for Gallantry in encouraging men to make successful counter attack. Splendid example and devotion to duty. (Bullecourt 4-6 May 1917).
