72 years ago today, on the Friday afternoon of the 14th November 1952, Private Thomas Ridley Bowman, 13th Battalion (Reg No-2551), draper's assistant (W. Winn & Co., Ltd.), father of one (Douglas), was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 62. ANGLICAN 3-190. 49.

Born at Hamilton, New South Wales on the 24th October 1890 to Thomas Maither, clerk, died 11.6.1953, Mayfield, N.S.W., age 84, buried at METHODIST 2 (PRIMITIVE) 23 SE. 47, from 45 Havelock Street, Mayfield, N.S.W., and Jane Bowman nee Ridley, died 14.6.1929, Newcastle, N.S.W., age 60, sleeping at METHODIST 2 (PRIMITIVE) 23 SE. 47; husband of Grace Balmer Bowman nee Platt, married 12.1.1918, Newcastle, N.S.W., died 15.10.1988, Newcastle, N.S.W., age 96, 36 years a widow, sleeping here, Tom enlisted on the 24th October 1916 with the 35th Battalion at Rutherford, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on the 25th October 1916.

Commenced return to Australia 26.9.1917.

Tom arrived home on the 25th November 1917, being discharged medically unfit (disordered action of the heart) on the 26th December 1917.

Mr. Bowman’s name has been inscribed on the W. Winn & Co., Ltd. Roll of Honor, W. Winn & Co's War Heroes Pictorial HR, Cooks Hill St. John's Anglican Church Honor Roll, Newcastle Protestant Alliance-Perseverance Lodge No. 40 Honour Roll and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies at Tom’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.

Service record states Died after Discharge, 13/11/1952.
