Alexander Leith DAWSON was born in 1878 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

In 1915 he was working at the Sunbury Asylum as an attendant/warder when he enlisted in the AIF on 9/7/1915. He gave his mother, Mrs M Dawson of Aberdeenshire, Scotland as his next of kin.

He was 6ft 1in tall and weighed 12st 4lbs.

He left Melbourne aboard the HMAT Ascanius on 10/11/1915 as part of the 29th Battalion.

He arrived in France on 23/6/1916 and was part of B company with the 29th.

He took part in all actions with his battalion and in actions during August 1918 was congratulated for continueing his observations and keeping the Battalion HQ informed during fighting. On 12th October 1918 he was transferred to the 32nd Battalion and remained with them until returning to Australia on 31/5/1919.

In 1921 he married Catherine Philip Butcher.

Alex died on 17/11/1964.
