Brother of Francis Darnley Hookey MM & Bar who returned to Australia on 31 March 1919 having served with the 36th and 34th Battalions

Husband of Florence May Hookey nee Curley of City Road, South Melbourne, Victoria. Walter and Florence married during 1910c in Victoria. Florence died in 1914.

Commenced return to Australia on 3 March 1919 aboard HT Derbyshire disembarking on 22 April 1919
