OBITUARY
MR. CONSTANTINOS ANASTANION PASSARIS
Residents of Merredin received a shock when they learned that our old and respected townsman, Mr. Con Passaris, had been suddenly stricken down with a serious illness, and after being taken to St.  John of God Hospital, Perth, had passed away on Tuesday, 14th instant.
The late Mr. Passaris  came to Australia in 1905 from Castelorosis (Greece). When World War One broke out 1914, he joined up with the A.I.F. Expeditionary Force and went to France in 1915, and saw  3 years active service. In 1939 he came to Merredin and commenced business as a greengrocer, which he carried on successfully for 14 years up to the time of his death.
Con's one big hobby whilst in Merredin was his connection with the Royal Antient Order of Buffalos he being a member of Coroation Lodge, No. 44, G.C.A.
Through that institution he did many fine things, and perhaps none greater than the interest he took in organising the annual Christmas treat for the children. Every year funds were raised by various means and hundreds of children received a gift from the Christmas tree, as well as numerous other things dear to the heart of the little ones. He had a generous heart and no appeal for a worthy cause ever escaped him. So it was a popular gesture and one much appreciated by ratepayers, when the Road Board flew, the flag at half mast to honour his memory.
THE FUNERAL.
The funeral took place on Thursday, 16th instant the remains being interred in the Greek section of the Karrakatta Cemetery following an impressive service conducted in the Parker Street Orthodox Church.  A large number of friends travelled to Perth to pay their last respects, including nine members of Coronation Lodge R.A.O.B.
