Claude Hume Lyne (Lieutenant)

My Great-Great Uncle. 3rd Great Uncle to James Marshall and Joshua Marshall.

Claude enlisted in the AIF on the 22nd of August 1914.

He fought at Gallipoli where as part of the 12th Battalion he would have been one of the first to land. 12th Batt was part of the covering force for the ANZAC Cove landing.

He died of Pneumonia in Marsilles, France, 7 April 1916.

DEATH OF SERGEANT C.H. LYNE

LAUNCESTON, Tuesday - Word was received at Fingal yesterday that Sergt. C.H. Lyne had died on active service from pneumonia.  Deceased, who was a nephew of the late Sir William Lyne, was council clerk at Fingal when he enlisted, and was a well-known athlete.  He leaves a widow and two young children.  Deceased was formerly a resident of Devonport , where he was a member of the staff of the Bank of Australasia, and a prominent footballer and oarsman.
