Private Ethelbert Arthur Crouch (Service No:NX79654) enlisted in the Army on 20 December 1941 with 5 Training Battalion, transferring to 2nd/3rd Machine Gun Battalion on 13 August 1942. Private Crouch served in New Guinea (29 January 1945 - 16 September 1945) and was Discharged on 19 October 1945.
The youngest of three children, Bert was born in 1910 in Perth WA to Frederick (Fred) George Crouch (b1870 in Glen iris, NSW) and Mary Ann Mackie (b1874 in Port Sorrel, Tasmania). Fred (a Railways Employee) and Mary married in 1890 in Perth, WA where they settled and raised their family - Fred worked for WAGR as a Porter and Checker and served briefly i(April to August) n the AIF in 1917. Following Fred's death in 1924, Mary Ann moved to Sydney, NSW.
Bert worked in Perth as a Carrier/Carter and in 1936 married Lucy Blight (nee Goodridge; b1902 in Surrey, England) - Lucy was a Dressmaker in Perth. Lucy had immigrated in 1914 with her parents and siblings, arriving in Fremantle on board the Australind. By 1940 Bert had moved to Sydney, NSW where he was living with his mother and working as a Storeman - Lucy remained in Perth where she worked as a Dressmaker and applied for Divorce in 1951. Bert worked in Sydney as a Wood Machinist, Sawyer and Lagger and following his Divorce, remarried to Mavis in the mid 1950s. Bert and Mavis moved to Wangi Wangi in Port Macquarie where Bert worked as a Labourer. Bert died in 1972.
