Served a five years tailor cutters apprenticeship with David Jones
Husband of Margaret Olive Upton nee Pitt of Macaulay Avenue, Central Bankstown, NSW. Norman and Olive married during 1916c in Marrickville, NSW.
8 October 1916 - enlisted at Sydney, NSW, with the Field Artillery Brigade with the rank of Gunner.
26 November 1917 - transferred to the 2nd Field Artillery
20 June 1919 - commenced return to Australia aboard Konig Frederich August disembarking on 10 August 1919.

10 September 1919 - discharged at the 2nd Military District
