Son of James Orton and May Fulton Orton nee Eaglesim of Upper Road, California Gully, Bendigo, Victoria.
Brother of Thomas Brown Orton died of wounds on 16 September 1917 while serving with the 2nd Australian Division Salvage Company and is buried in The Huts Cemetery, Plot V1, Row A, Grave 10 and Robert Leslie Orton who returned to Australia on 27 September 1919 having served with the 7th Battalion.
