Son of August Olsen and Johanna Olsen of Ferry Street, Frederickstad, Norway.
On 14 October 1914 Charles lodged an application to be Naturalised saying that he came from New York, USA during February 1908 aboard the SS Cambusdoon disembarking at Sydney, NSW. Since arriving he had lived in Manning River, Musselbrook and Denman areas. Charles took the Oath of Alliegence on 14 October 1914.
Husband of Frances Loveday Olsen nee Watmough of Layton Park Road, London. Charles and Frances married on 8 January 1916 in the Parish Church, Layton, Essex, England. Charles L. Thornton officiated
